Democratic
Decentralization of Forest Resource Management in Senegal
This
collaborative research programme on the structure and the effect
of decentralization of management of forest resources had the
objective of putting in place social and ecological public
policies of the forest sector in Senegal in a durable manner, in
the context of decentralization.
The programme
comprised two parts
-
The first part
consisted of a series of studies at the village level which
concentrated on the local institutional changes to the
management of natural resources.

The second part
consisted of a study on the regulation of the rural and urban
markets for the sale of charcoal
This research was
undertaken in a period of 16 months by 5 young researchers. The
project came to a close on the 8th of May 2006 with a
conference held in Dakar
