Looking at Nampula city, Mozambique’s third most important urban
centre, this project explores contradictions and inequalities in
the production of the urban space. Challenging current
discourses that see the urban space as homogeneous, thus
neglecting internal and external interaction, the study analyses
the production and reproduction of elements associated to rural
life in the urban space as a result of the socio-economic
processes dominating in the urban space. Fieldwork and
interviews will be complemented with an historical analysis of
the migration process in order to understand the present
morphology of the city.
