In the
context of the poverty reduction strategies this study looks at
the ways in which poverty and vulnerability are conceptualized
in Cap –Vert. The project is being conducted in rural and urban
areas of Santiago, and seeks to go beyond dominant approaches in
economics that see poverty and vulnerability only in
quantitative terms. Thus the study borrows from economics,
anthropological and sociological approaches to explore the
economic, environmental, social, political and cultural
dimensions of poverty and vulnerability. Furthermore, the study
seeks to identify the poorest groups, survival strategies and
ways to promote cash crops and empower local communities.
