Activities
Capacity Building: Capacity building of
SSA high officials of ministries of education and finance in
educational finance, planning, management and budgeting.
Research: Conducting case studies on all
the aspects of educational finance and budgeting at the country
level through national research teams. The following case
studies have been published to date: Benin, Burundi, Mauritius,
Niger, Senegal and Swaziland. Egypt and Kenya are in press.
Development of training materials such as
training manuals to go are used during the training sessions as
valuable tools to maximize the learning potentials of the
trainees.
Databases on the impressive network of
educational specialists, and educational finance experts across
the continent.
Policy
Dialogue Conference: Policy dialogue conferences reinforce
thee interface between the various stakeholders of educational
in Africa: governments, development agencies, research
institutions, academia, teachers’ unions, students’ unions,
civil society organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations
(NGOs). Two conferences were held in 2004 in Dakar on the Crisis
of Higher Education in West Africa and the Financing and
Planning of Education in Africa. One was held in 2005 in
Kampala, Uganda which topic was: The Financing of Education in
East Africa: From Government Intervention to Local Community
Involvement. The proceedings of the conferences are in the
process of being published in the CODESRIA monograph series.
Synergies and
Partnerships: A joint collaborative program was held with
German Capacity Building International (InWent), the UNESCO-IIEP,
and the University of Wits through the Managing Educational
Costs, Finance and Budgeting (MECOFIBU) for planning and budget
officers of five Southern African countries: Malawi, Mozambique,
Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.
