Mission of the Working Group on Finance and Education

The mission of the Working Group on Finance and Education (WGFE) is to address two paramount issues in the area of educational finance across sub-Saharan African countries: 1) Serve as a forum to develop mechanisms, share information, as well as to reinforce existing capacities and create new ones in the area of African educational finance, management, budgeting and planning; and 2) In a context of scarce resources, involve stakeholders (public, private, grassroots organizations, NGOs) in the reflection on education finance and allocation of resources available and/or those to be mobilized, while ensuring a good linkage between the various components of educational finance and management.

Since its establishment in 1994, the Working Group has been hosted by the CODESRIA as an integral part of the Council’s collaborative programs; financial support for the group has come primarily from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
