The
Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is pleased to announce its 10th General Assembly which is
coming up in Kampala, Uganda, from 8 – 12 December, 2002. The
Assembly, Africa’s biggest triennial gathering of scholars actively
involved in social research, will be held under the broad theme: Africa in the New Millennium.
Among the sub-themes around which scientific sessions will be organised
are:

The Popular Arts, Identity and
Culture in Contemporary Africa;

Conflict and Reconstruction in
Africa;

State, Political Identity and
Political Violence;

Political Pluralism and the
Management of Diversity;

Re-thinking
(African) Development;
-
Africa Beyond Structural
Adjustment;

Migration Dynamics and Changing
Rural-Urban Linkages;

New Regionalist Impulses in

The African Diaspora and Diaspora
Linkages.
Abstracts for the presentation of
papers are invited from the community of social researchers within and
outside Africa on any of the above-mentioned sub-themes. The Council
will also welcome abstracts on any other topics, which cannot be
accommodated within the sub-themes outlined above. Furthermore,
independent proposals for the constitution of panels are strongly
encouraged. All paper abstracts and panel proposals must be received at
the CODESRIA Secretariat by 31 August 2002. For abstracts and
panel proposals, which are selected, all full papers should be received
at the CODESRIA Secretariat by 31 October 2002. Assembly
participants will receive, by e-mail, copies of all papers to be
presented by 20 November 2002.
