Faculty Seminars: The faculty seminars in social science is an activity launched to revive the culture of departmental/ regular faculty seminars , associated with the cultivation of extensive research experience in african universities and which have gradually disappeared in African universities since the turn of 1980s due to the funding crisis in African higher education. Its goal is mainly to promote intellectual and scholarly debate and encourage discussion of research produced in African universities.

Interventions Series: Interventions Series is an activity exclusively reserved for young researchers enrolled in doctoral programs in African universities or who have completed their doctoral research over the past five years. Laureates: In the language of CODESRIA, laureates are those who have been selected to receive a small grant for writing a thesis or a research grant or yet to participate in one of CODESRIA institutes.

Lusophone Initiative: The Lusophone initiative is an activity designed to encourage the participation of students, academics and researchers in Africa whose working language is Portuguese. It involves both the organization of specific activities speaking countries of Africa and various measures to improve participation in these activities regular CODESRISA (simultaneous, version CODESRIA Bulletin in Portuguese translation ads in Portuguese, publishing works in Portuguese, etc..).

Multinational Working Group: The Multinational Working Group (GMT) is the Research programme’s oldest and most frequently used tool. It is Council’s most important instrument for mobilizing the research community around a specific problem o. The African diaspora is also involved in the GMT. A GMT brings together researchers from various disciplines and various African countries and has always been around in one of the priority research topics selected by the General Assembly.

National Working Group: Unlike GMT projects which are handled directly from CODESRIA and are always multinational in composition, the National Working Groups (TNG) are autonomous initiatives designed by African researchers wishing to study any phenomenon in a given country.

Policy Dialogue : The Pan-African character of CODESRIA and its programs is a key element of the Council’s ability to speak frequently to audiences worldwide, regionally and nationally with the advantage that its status of observer in the African Union, agencies of the UN system and the Economic Commission of the United Nations for Africa. Because of this status and opportunities arising from contacts, CODESRIA is uniquely positioned to sponsor a sustainable political dialogue to bring together academics, researchers and policymakers about issues of concern to African countries in particular and the continent of ’more generally.

Program: The term program refers to entities deployed in carrying out the activities of the Council but also the name given to the various administrative divisions that make up the Executive Secretariat of CODESRIA. Thus we speak of research program to identify the unit that manages the research activities within the CODESRIA.

Region: In the deployment of its programs, CODESRIA seeks to establish research networks and organize activities on the continent. So it organizes activities within five (5) regions that make up the continent namely Southern Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, North Africa and West Africa.

Scientific Writing Workshop: In order to strengthen the capacity to master the techniques of written argument, to expose a view well supported by facts/logic, to develop a style of presentation and analysis that is sound, to correctly quote references and to submit well manuscripts for publication, CODESRIA organizes scientific writing workshops for academics and researchers in Africa.

Training of Trainers Workshop: This workshop is primarily aimed at teachers and researchers responsible in their universities and research center for teaching research methods in social sciences.

Transnational Working Group: The Transnational Working Group (TWG) are a direct response to the context of the increasingly globalized world in which the production of knowledge about Africa is taking place. The TWG is conceived as a means of promoting and maintaining dialogue between African and non-African on themes of common scientific interest.
