During the 14th General Assembly that held in Dakar, Senegal in June 2015, CODESRIA adopted a new Charter which heralded some changes in its governance mechanisms. The changes relate mainly to the way members of the Executive Committee of the Council are elected. The Assembly resolved that:
(i) members of the Executive Committee will, beginning with the 15th General Assembly in 2018 be elected on the basis that such members are in good standing and have records of continued engagement in intellectual production or activity.
(ii) to be eligible, members should be persons that have integrity within the community in which they belong, and are familiar with and share the vision of CODESRIA.
In accordance with the Byelaws, only members who have fully paid up their membership dues for two years, the current year of the election inclusive, are qualified to vote or stand for elective positions. I wish therefore to use this medium to invite members of the Council to pay up their membership dues in order to increase their chances of being qualified to participate in the elections scheduled to hold sometime in 2018, preparatory to the General Assembly scheduled in December 2018.
CODESRIA has implemented an electronic payment system to ease the difficulty which members encounter in meeting their membership obligations. Please visit http://www.codesria.org/spip.php?article2675 in order to pay your dues. NOte the following information:
(a) If you do not have a Paypal account and you wish to pay with debit/credit cards, you will still need to navigate through the Paypall button on the screen and select “Credit or Debit Card Information”. You may then select “card type”.
(b) If you do not have access to either the PayPal or any other electronic debit/credit system, alternative payment methods such as direct transmission to the bank, Western Union, Moneygram or conveyance to CODESRIA through visitors still subsist.
(c) Please note that the individual membership fee is 50USD effective from 2018 while institutional membership fees remain 500USD. In both cases, the transaction fees such as commissions or other are borne by the payer, and not CODESRIA.
