The textbook production programme is part of CODESRIA's contribution to the production and dissemination of didactic tools that play an important role not only in relieving the book famine in African higher education but also contributing to the renewal and updating of the teaching curriculum of universities.

The programme assists the academy in addressing the question of the quality and relevance of instructional materials used in African universities and centres of advanced learning. Through the programme, some of the most experienced and acknowledged African scholars are offered an opportunity to put their knowledge at the fingertips of African students throughout the continent and beyond. CODESRIA collaborates closely with African universities and professional associations for the realisation of the objectives of this crucial programme.

Librarian

Jean Pierre Diouf holds a Master Degree in Information Science and Communication and a higher diploma in Information Science and Communication from the Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) School of Librarians, Archivists and Documentation (EBAD), a Master Degree in Marketing and Communications and a Master Degree in Project Management. Jean Pierre is a librarian in the CODESRIA Documentation and Information Centre (CODICE). Within CODICE, Jean-Pierre is responsible for the management of User Services; bibliographical research, disclosures and mailing lists used to disseminate CODESRIA activities within Africa and globally. Since 2002, Jean-Pierre has played an important role in the organisation of general meetings for CODESRIA. He joined CODESRIA in 1987. Jean Pierre is Senegalese.

5. Small Grants Programme

Encourage the continued development of the Social Science Research in Africa.

Launched in 1988, the program of small grants for thesis writing in African institutions is a `foster the continued development of the Social Science Research in Africa, meeting the basic needs of African researchers to enable them to perform their fieldwork, but also provides winners bibliographies, textbooks and journals.

The Council also provides support in methods and research methodologies

310. African research on aging process and intergenerational relations

Saharan African population is under age. However, the lives of seniors in this region is characterized by the weakening of traditional family support to these groups, but also by their vulnerability to poverty and exclusion of some health services. However, the elderly contribute significantly to the well-being of younger generations of their family and their community (usually by taking care of children and grandchildren).

The African Research Network on Aging (AFRAN) - African Network for Research on aging process, seeks to strengthen and expand the limited capacity of African research on aging, health, HIV / AIDS and family, conducting a Search "collaborative" high level. Thus, the AFRAN seeks to achieve an integrated program of activities, including research and policy dialogues, a capacity building component, a training component and Development Program, sharing and exchanging information through the Internet, even a component publications.

10. Mission Statement

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is headquartered in Dakar, Senegal. It was established in 1973 as an independent pan-African research organisation primarily focusing on social sciences research in Africa.

It is recognised not only as the pioneer African social research organisation but also as the apex non-governmental centre of social knowledge production on the continent.

Its objectives are to:

Promote and facilitate research and knowledge production in Africa using a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach. The Council is committed to combating the fragmentation of knowledge production, and the African community of scholars along various disciplinary and linguistic/geographical lines;
Promote and defend the principle of independent thought and the academic freedom of researchers in the production and dissemination of knowledge;
Encourage and support the development of African comparative research with a continental perspective and a sensitivity to the specificity of the development process in Africa;
Promote the publication and dissemination of research results undertaken by African scholars;
Strengthen the institutional basis of knowledge production in Africa by proactively engaging and supporting other research institutions and their networks of scholars within its programmes of activities. As part of this goal, the Council also actively encourages cooperation and collaboration among African universities, research organisations and other training institutions;
Encourage inter-generational and gender-sensitive dialogues in the African academy as a further investment of effort in the promotion of awareness and capacity for the use of different prospectives for knowledge production;
Promote contacts and dialogue between African researchers and researchers on Africa elsewhere in the world, as well as interaction between the Council and similar international organisations.
