The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) welcomes all participants to its 14th CODESRIA General Assembly to be held on 8-12 June 2015 in Dakar, Senegal. CODESRIA is at your service and invites you to read this information note to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
1- Entry visa to Senegal: Participants who need an entry visa to Senegal are kindly requested to make arrangements and apply for one in their countries of residence. For more information, we kindly urge you to contact the Senegalese embassies or diplomatic missions in your country of residence.
2- Support for participants sponsored by CODESRIA: CODESRIA will provide sponsored participants with travel tickets, accommodation and a lump sum for other incidental expenses.
3 – All personal expenses (telephone calls, laundry, bar, meals) are the responsibility of the participants. The hotel has already been informed of this.
4 – Reception: A team from CODESRIA will be available at the arrival lounge of Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport, Dakar, to welcome participants. The team will also direct participants to the bus that will take them to the hotel. For return flights, participants will be informed of the departure time of the bus to the airport. Kindly note that schedules will be strictly respected.

6 – Venue of the General Assembly: All the sessions of the 14th CODESRIA General Assembly will be held at the King Fahd Palace Hotel.
7 – Structure of the Program of the General Assembly: The program is organized around a combination of special conferences, plenary sessions, parallel sessions and panels. Parallel sessions take place throughout Wednesday 10 June 2015 and will consist of 4 series of sept (7) concurrent sessions. Paper presenters, rapporteurs and session chairs are kindly urged to take note of their session.
8 – Time management: All sessions of the General Assembly will start at 9 o’clock. Participants are kindly urged to be punctual because any delay will have a negative impact on the overall program.
9 – Working languages: The two working languages of the 14th CODESRIA General Assembly are French and English. Simultaneous interpretation into these languages will be available during all the sessions of the General Assembly.
10- Conference documents: Some of the documents of the General Assembly will be available on the CODESRIA website (http://www.codesria.org) before the official opening of the General Assembly. Participants in the 14th CODESRIA General Assembly will also receive a conference kit (bag containing the book of abstracts, programme and a name tag).
11 – Registration: The registration of participants will take place on 6, 7 and 8 June 2015 from 9am. The documents of the General Assembly will be provided to participants after registration.
12 – Conference rooms: The General Assembly conference rooms are all at Level 0 of the conference Centre. Directions will be available to guide participants.
13 – Book exhibition: Participants may wish to visit the book exhibition which will be held during the General Assembly with publishers residing in Senegal or from other countries. Publications from CODESRIA and other publishing houses will be launched during the exhibition of books.
14 – Lunch: For the duration of the 14th CODESRIA General Assembly (8-12 June 2015), lunch will be served in the Flamboyant Room of the King Fahd Palace.
15 – Coffee break: Two coffee breaks will be served every day during the General Assembly.
16 – Refunds: To get reimbursed, all expenses must have previously been authorized by CODESRIA. All supporting documents related to every expenditure must also be submitted.
General information about Senegal
17 – Health conditions: Please ensure that your vaccinations are up-to-date. Mandatory vaccinations to enter Senegal are yellow fever and meningitis. You will be requested to present your vaccination card (international certificate of vaccination) upon arrival at the airport. Please note that costs related to vaccines shall not be reimbursed.
18 – Climate: According to forecasts, the temperature will be around 29° in June. Even if June marks the beginning of the rainy season in Senegal, generally, there is very little rain in June in Dakar.
19 – Time zone: Senegal is at GMT+0.
20 – Official language: French is the official language of Senegal.
21 – Currency: The official currency of Senegal is the West Africa CFA Franc (XOF).
One Euro is equivalent to 655,597 CFAF and one dollar is worth about 600 CFA francs. There are bureaux de change around the airport and in the city.
22 – Electricity: current provided is 220 volts with two-pin sockets. If necessary, consider bringing your own adapters.
23 – Safety tips: As in all countries, there are precautions to take during your stay in Senegal. For your safety, in public places be careful of strangers offering services or wares.
